About the SFASU Planetarium

Opened in the fall of 2018, the Planetarium is located in the Ed and Gwen Cole STEM building. It provides a unique teaching and learning space not only for the science of astronomy but for all STEM fields. To reflect SFASU’s commitment to informal education and service to our community the planetarium offers public shows and school field trip opportunities.

The SFA planetarium is one of the most sophisticated in the state of Texas with a 50-foot diameter nano-seam dome and a state-of-the-art 4K Digistar 6 projection system. This system can project the night sky of stars and planets as seen from anywhere on the Earth with digital precision. Full-dome shows use a combination of stunning visual effects, vivid colors, dramatic motion and powerful surround sound to immerse audiences on thrilling voyages of discovery.

The planetarium has seating for 114 and is wheelchair friendly. For the hearing impaired, there is an assistive listening system available.
